Volcanic Visions of Hawai'i
These images were taken around the Kilauea vent near the ocean on the Big Island Hawai'i. I find it hard to describe to you the wonder of standing above ground and watching a river of lava run under your feet; seperated by nothing more than six inches of crust.
Sights like these drive home the message that the Earth is a living being and engender the respect that we all should have for her. I was fortunate to see lava at various stages from fresh to a few weeks old. Apart from leaving sculptures of art, the top layer of new formed lava created a mosaic that looked like gold foil mixed with patches of deep blue.
It was a humbling experience.
